Nashik holds a special place since ancient times, and has its own rich mythological, historical, social and cultural importance.Religious places such as Trimbakeshwar, Panchavati and Tapovan are important places for devotees from all over the country. Nashik is also important as a growth center for Industries. It is situated at a distance of 180 kms from Mumbai. The city attracts visitors because of its beautiful surroundings and cool and pleasant climate.  Nashik has grown from a small Industrial city to a very vibrant Industrial Centre with the presence of industrial giants like Mahindra & Mahindra, MICO, Siemens etc to name a few. Nashik is a city that is industrially very vibrant. In January 1962, Nashik Industrial Cooperative Estate was established. During the decade starting 1962, MICO, Taparia and VIP Industries set up their units in NICE Satpur. Apart from the industrial growth, it was the Central Government Establishments like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd which provided the initial momentum to the growth of the city in 1964. Thereafter, the industrial growth has been tremendous with setting up of new Industrial Areas of Ambad and Sinnar. Dadasaheb Phalke, the doyen of the Indian Film Industry started his first hindi movie in Nashik.  Nashik has now earned the sobriquet of “grape city” with the vine yards that compare with the best in Europe and Australia.

 

The holy river Godavari which has its source at Trimbakeshwar flows through the city. Temples and ghats on the banks of the Godavari have made Nashik one of the holiest places for Hindus all over the World. The city celebrates the  Kumbh Mela every twelve years attracting lakhs of devotees from all over the world.
